Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 25, 2026

Clarity ("Clarity", "we", "us", "our") is operated by airox labs. This Privacy Policy applies to the Clarity web application at needclarity.app, the Clarity mobile app for iOS (distributed via the Apple App Store), and the Clarity mobile app for Android (distributed via Google Play). It explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have over your information.

1. What We Collect

When you use Clarity on any platform, we collect the following information:

  • Account information: Name, email address, and authentication credentials or OAuth identity tokens (when you sign in via Google Sign-In or Apple Sign-In).
  • Profile information (optional): Age range, gender, occupation, relationship status, children and dependents, country — provided voluntarily to improve coaching quality.
  • Conversation content: Messages you exchange with AI coaches, decision questions, extracted insights, action plans, and Memory Bank entries you create.
  • Voice audio (mobile only, optional): When you tap the microphone button during a coaching session, your spoken audio is captured and converted to text by the operating system's speech-recognition service (Apple or Google). The resulting transcript is sent to Clarity as a normal text message. Raw audio is not stored on our servers or transmitted to Clarity's backend.
  • Product analytics: Event-level data about your use of Clarity (screens visited, features used, sessions completed, subscription events), tagged with your Clarity account identifier and used to help us understand how Clarity is used and improve the product.
  • Marketing measurement data (mobile): When you install Clarity from a marketing campaign, we and our marketing measurement partners receive install events, in-app conversion events (such as sign-up and trial-start), and a device-scoped identifier (Google App Set ID on Android; Apple's SKAdNetwork conversion values on iOS; or your iOS Identifier for Advertisers ("IDFA") if you grant App Tracking Transparency consent). This data is used solely to measure which marketing channels deliver new users.
  • Device and technical data: Device model, operating system and version, app version, language, time zone, and crash reports.
  • Push notification token: On mobile, we store an anonymous push notification token issued by Apple Push Notification service (APNs) or Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) so we can deliver reminders and coach notifications you opt into. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
  • Approximate location: On web, your IP address is used to determine approximate city-level location for weather personalization on the home screen. This is used once per session and discarded — it is not stored or logged. We do not collect precise GPS location on any platform.
  • Purchase and subscription data: Subscription status (active, expired, in trial, cancelled) and anonymized transaction identifiers provided by Apple App Store, Google Play, and RevenueCat. We do not receive or store your payment card details or bank information.

What we do NOT collect: We do not collect precise GPS location, device contacts, photos, calendar, SMS, call logs, or any biometric identifiers. We do not request the legacy Android Advertising ID (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID is explicitly blocked in our Android manifest).

On iOS, certain marketing measurement activities constitute "tracking" as Apple defines it: "linking user or device data collected from your app with user or device data collected from other companies' apps, websites, or offline properties for targeted advertising or advertising measurement purposes." Where this applies, we request your permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before any cross-app identifier (your IDFA) is shared with our marketing measurement partner. If you decline, we use Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork framework instead, and core app functionality is unaffected.

2. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide AI-powered decision coaching and generate personalized action plans.
  • To remember context across sessions (Memory Bank) for more relevant coaching.
  • To send push notifications and reminders you opt into.
  • To improve Clarity through aggregated product analytics and to measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns.
  • To process payments and manage your subscription.

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share data with the service providers and marketing measurement partners described in this policy, solely for the purposes set out here. We never share the content of your conversations with our AI coaches, your decision questions, your action plans, your Memory Bank entries, or any other content you create within Clarity, with any advertising, marketing, or attribution partner.

3. AI Processing

Your conversation messages are processed by Google (Gemini models via Vertex AI) to generate coaching responses. Google processes your messages as instructed by us and does not use your data to train their models. We select providers that offer data processing agreements and enterprise-grade privacy protections.

By using Clarity's coaching features, you consent to your conversation data being transmitted to Google's servers for AI processing. This data is used solely to generate coaching responses and action plans for you, and is not retained by Google for other purposes.

4. Third-Party Services

Clarity relies on the following categories of third-party service providers. Each provider is bound by their own privacy policies and (where applicable) by data processing agreements with us.

  • AI processing — Google (Gemini via Vertex AI): generative AI processing of your conversation content to produce coaching responses. Google processes content as instructed by us under its enterprise terms and does not use your data to train its models.
  • Authentication and database hosting — Supabase: account management, session storage, and database hosting. Hosted in the European Union.
  • Sign-in providers — Google Sign-In and Apple Sign-In: authentication on mobile. Your Google or Apple account issues an identity token which we exchange for a Clarity session. We never see your password.
  • Subscription management — RevenueCat: subscription, trial, and entitlement management across iOS and Android app stores.
  • Push notification delivery — Apple Push Notification service (APNs), Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), and Expo Push Notifications: delivery of the coaching reminders and notifications you opt into. No conversation content is sent through these channels.
  • Product analytics providers: event-level analytics that help us measure feature usage and improve Clarity.
  • Marketing measurement partners: install attribution and marketing-campaign measurement, as described in Section 1.
  • Error tracking — Sentry (web only): error tracking on the needclarity.app web application; not used in the mobile apps.
  • Payment processing — Apple App Store and Google Play Billing: payment processing, trial eligibility, and receipt validation. Apple and Google receive your billing information directly — we do not.

4a. Mobile Permissions

The Clarity mobile app requests only the permissions strictly necessary to provide its features:

  • Microphone (optional): used solely for voice-to-text input during coaching sessions, when you explicitly tap the microphone button. We never record audio in the background.
  • Push notifications (optional): used to deliver coaching reminders and nudges you opt into. You can disable them at any time in your device settings.
  • Internet access (required): used to communicate with Clarity's servers to sync your sessions, decisions, and subscription status.
  • Biometric authentication (optional, iOS only): Face ID or Touch ID for securely signing in with Apple.

We do not request camera, photo library, contacts, SMS, call logs, precise location, calendar, or body sensors.

We do not request the legacy Android Advertising ID (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID is explicitly blocked in our Android manifest). On Android 13+, our marketing measurement partners use Google's Privacy Sandbox AdServices APIs for privacy-preserving install attribution.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on secure servers hosted in the European Union. We use encryption in transit (TLS) and row-level security policies to ensure only you can access your data. Database access is restricted and protected by strong authentication.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data — visible in your Settings, Memory Bank, and decision history.
  • Delete your account and all associated data — available in Settings → Delete Account.
  • Export your decision reports — available on each decision detail page.
  • Withdraw consent at any time by discontinuing use of the service.

Account deletion is immediate and permanent. All your sessions, decisions, tasks, and memories are removed from our systems.

7. Children

Clarity is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16 years of age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.

8. Subscriptions & Payments

Clarity offers a free trial and paid subscription plans. Payments are processed by the app store you installed Clarity from — Apple App Store on iOS and Google Play Billing on Android — and managed via RevenueCat. We receive subscription status information (active, expired, in trial, cancelled) and an anonymized transaction identifier. We do not receive or store your payment card details, bank information, or billing address.

  • Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • iOS: manage or cancel your subscription at Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device.
  • Android: manage or cancel your subscription at Google Play → Account → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
  • Free trial eligibility is determined by the respective app store and RevenueCat based on your account history. Eligibility is tracked separately on iOS and Android.

9. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all personal data including conversations, decisions, tasks, memories, and profile information is permanently deleted within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated analytics data may be retained indefinitely.

10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal data we collect and how it is used.
  • Request deletion of your personal data.
  • Opt out of the sale of your personal data — we do not sell personal data.
  • Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

To exercise these rights, use the Delete Account feature in Settings or contact us at [email protected].

11. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email.
